( WORLD INFORMATION )

We've been running for two months. Every time we think we're ready to stop we pick back up again, afraid that they'll find us. We left everyone behind. We're told we had no choice but what if it was the wrong decision? What if everyone we left behind is dead, and we're next. We know they're coming, we just don't know when our luck will run out. Or if we'll die before they find us.

In 2093 a ship from Earth left on an exploratory mission to find a new planet. Earth was dying. Over the years the people of Earth had taken too many resources. The land was too unhealthy for new crops to grow, and there wasn't enough to sustain the animals never mind the people. They sent the ship out with hope of being able to find another planet - to begin a new life and send word back to Earth so the rest of the citizens could follow.

The mission was a half-success. They were able to find a new planet but the trip had taken longer than expected. Although word was sent back to Earth no one else arrived. Either the message didn't make it, or they didn't.

They called it New Earth, although decades later they would discover that the planet was named Keti. Citizens of a neighbouring planet Alta had been monitoring the ship since its arrival into the system, watching them as they settled onto the planet. It was 32 years before the Altans contacted the citizens of New Earth. The leader at the time had wanted to leave them alone, to keep their own planet and affairs private. Their successor had been more curious, extending the olive branch into discussion, and later trade. Although communication had at first been difficult with not speaking the same language they worked around it, finding common ground and other ways of communicating.

Over the three generations that they lived on New Earth trade and communications between the Altans and citizens of New Earth remained open. With some government administrations the relationship was a little strained but peaceful enough to keep things cordial - with trade, cultural exchanges and vacations to either planet still possible.

Until 2214. The newest leader of Alta, Minister Chuta, proved himself to be less calm and patient with the treaties and trade agreements. Although there had been rockiness in previous administrations things had never been as strained as they now became. All Altans were recalled from New Earth, with demands for the humans to be removed from Alta. The minister requested more from the previous trade agreements, cutting prices given to New Earth trades and raising their sale prices. When New Earth refused to sell them a resource until things were settled, and returned to the previous regulations, Minister Chuta retaliated, sending the first attack to New Earth.

They weren't prepared. Although the cities had basic defences they had limited capabilities, and a lack of weapons to respond with. They were out-gunned from aerial attacks.

When the troops landed on the planet, working through the cities the guard responded, defending their cities from the ground. Many died on both sides and for now no one else was sent to the planet. The citizens of New Earth began working on their defences and offensive strategies - building weapons and outfitting the former transport ships to be able to attack.

The attack on the shipyard was unexpected, coming months after the radio silence from Alta had begun. The bomb had been placed from the inside and a group of Altans were found. Although it halted the production of further ships they were still able to complete the upgrades on the current ships, sending out their own attack to Alta.

The attacks continued increasing, and the government of New Earth was killed in 2216, but not before doing its final act - sending out the Starburst, the ship that had originally brought them to New Earth, out with resources, a crew and their databases. It was their last hope as Earth citizens for survival. Their new new start.

war been going on 2 years
the starburst ( nari's ship ) was badly damaged in the escape. lots of crew killed, ship barely functioning. everyone learns new skills to get it running again to escape
ship is old - maintained since colonisation but not used except for tours and education
humans colonised keti three generations ago. cities are small - government buildings, schools, lots of farming and grow your own crop. nari lived in the city rather than farmland - parents were doctor + government official. more interested in the ships, history + technology than farming. daydreamed of space but never expected to get into it. likes feet on the ground but would communicate with other planets. tries to build old-style radios, walkie talkies. likes technology history + adept with current tech (small scale repairs, v knowledgable on the communication system of the cities). worked as a communication tech in the city (like an it helpdesk)

makes technology pop culture references
mostly the communication girl - connecting, fixing networks - some engineering skills but not a builder
says she hates flowers but secretly likes sunflowers. dont get her lilies
awkward conversationalist
likes things straightforward
self depreciating humour to ignore the seriousness of life
